Level 4 vs Level 5 Drywall Finish
Choose the right drywall finish for standard walls, critical lighting, smooth ceilings and premium interiors.
Where Level 4 works
Level 4 is the normal choice for most painted walls. Joints, fasteners and accessories receive the required compound coats and sanding before primer and standard paint.
When Level 5 earns its cost
Level 5 adds a skim coat across the complete board surface. It helps equalize porosity and reduce visible joint photographing under strong side lighting, glossy coatings and large uninterrupted walls.
Lighting decides more than room type
Floor-to-ceiling windows, linear LEDs and dark paint expose surface variation. Review lighting direction and finish sheen before specifying the drywall finish.
